Help Us Plant a Doggie Oasis!

September 13, 2017

It’s a typical 95 degree afternoon in Sacramento:

Dog: *pant* *pant* *pant* Whew! It's way too hot out here. *pant* *pant* *pant*

Tree: Hello there, friend. My name is Will O. Oak. You’re looking a bit ruff today.

Dog: Whoa, it must be hot. I’m seeing things. You’re a talking tree.

Tree: Hahaha! And you’re a talking dog! Beleaf me, I am very real.

Dog: Hmmm, good point. My name is Howie, and I’m staying at the Sacramento SPCA, waiting for my forever-home. This is my daily walk. I don’t think I’ve seen you here before.

Tree: I’m new. I was part of the first phase of planting that will turn this back lot into a doggie oasis. It’s no secret that a vibrant, robust tree canopy is crucial to the physical and emotional well-being of dogs and people! As we grow, we’ll work to make this space a more comfortable, healthier area for you to exercise.

Dog: Really? First phase? Are more trees on the way?

Tree: Yes, Howie. SMUD, the Sacramento SPCA, and Sac Tree need volunteers on Saturday, October 7th for the “Barking up the Right Tree” event as 25 more of my leafy friends will be planted in our forever-homes.

Dog: Wow! Do you think they’ll find enough illus-tree-ous volunteers to plant and mulch?

Tree: I think so! Soon, this area will be a beautiful, natural landscape for your walks.

Dog: What a releaf the shade will be on days like today! I’ll have to tell everybody inside about our new spot out back!

Tree: Please do, Howie. And know that I’m rooting for you to find your forever-home just like me!

Dog: Thanks, Will. I hope my new home has a paw-esome tree just like you!

Daily walks are crucial to maintaining the mental and physical health of the dogs at the SSPCA. Register now to join us on Saturday, October 7th. Let’s build a pawsh doggie oasis for these pups to enjoy as they await their forever-homes!
