Trees serve a variety of functions that improve health in our communities.

Culminating in June 2015, the Tree Foundation conducted the Green Prescription study to evaluate the connection between tree canopy and human health. The results show that in the urban areas of our region, there is a strong connection between having increased tree canopy and several health outcomes.

Urban Forests for Clean Air

In 2006, the Sacramento Tree Foundation and the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District (SMAQMD) entered into a partnership to evaluate the effects of the urban forest on regional air quality, with the goal of including a voluntary control strategy based on trees in the Sacramento Regional 8-Hour Ozone Attainment and Reasonable Further Progress Plan (the Plan). Once approved, the Plan will become an update to the California State Implementation Plan for Air Quality.

Help Us Build Suga’ Cane Community Garden

Help the Sacramento Tree Foundation, Del Paso Heights Growers' Alliance, and Green Technical Education & Employment build a new Teaching Urban Farming, Forestry, and Aquaponics (TUFFA) Training Center in Del Paso Heights (called "Suga’ Cane Community Garden") for United Way's Day of Caring.

Acorn Harvester Training

Learn about the biology of our native oak trees and become qualified to harvest acorns for Sacramento Tree Foundation programs. Class will include both classroom-style and hands-on learning and is geared towards individuals 12 and older. This class is perfect for scout leaders, educators, and students who wish to participate in this fall's harvest. After class, Acorn Harvesters work on their own schedule to help us gather 10,000 acorns from throughout the Sacramento region.
